If you are looking for a doula, we recommend you look at the doula directory available and contact the one you like or think best suits your needs, or as many as you wish to talk to. However, if you are having doubts or difficulties finding one, get in touch with us through the contact email and we will assist you in your search.

• We recommend that you contact the doula you of your choice and make a private appointment to assess the level of compatibility and empathy. It’s good to remember that a doula is not another person of the many people who you’ll be in contact during this most important process, but a person who will support her and be with her through all of the birth process and with whom she will share an emotional bond. It is for this reason that at DoulasBarcelona we strongly recommend to go through as many meetings as necessary to find the right person for you.
• During the first meeting with the doula, we suggest you talk about all of your doubts, fears, options and choices and share any information that might contribute to a more fruitful relationship and better results.

Our service

Doulas registered at doulasbarcelona.org believe that the most valuable aspect of our work resides in being flexible and adapting to every woman and her own real needs, which cannot be fixed beforehand and have to constantly be reassessed according to how the evolution of the process.

doulasBarcelona.org is not an entity, but a space of presence and diffusion; therefore we don’t fix any standards for the doulas that appear in it, nor do we receive commission for their work. Every doula will establish her own rate, and allowances can be made in case of genuine hardship. In the same way, every doula takes full responsibility for her practice and must inform every woman of her line of work and rates.

However, as a general orientation, doulasbarcelona.org, recommends:
• For a birth doula service: two meetings before birth, and ongoing telephone communication during the two weeks before due date. Constant support from the onset of labour and right to the end of the birth process. A final visit within the first 48 hours following birth.
• A maximum rate of 500€ for the full service, with pre-arranged extras if necessary (travelling, etc.).
• For a Post-partum doula service: one or more meetings before birth, and constant support from the hours following birth, at hospital and at home, during the first two weeks approximately. The mother and doula, according to the particular needs of every case, will establish the frequency and duration of these meetings.

An average fee of about 20 to 40€ per hour is advised, with pre-arranged extras if necessary (travelling, etc.). Some doulas might offer a set package of a fixed number of hours at special rates.
